As I venture into the wedding planning for our wedding along with being in the industry for 13 years now, I know the importance of reducing wedding stress. So here I am creating content to try to help you through this process, even if we aren't a great fit for eachother I'm happy for you and excited to help in any way I can.
Your wedding day is undoubtedly one of the most important and cherished moments of your life. Capturing these precious memories through photography is essential, as it allows you to relive those magical moments for years to come. When it comes to choosing a wedding photographer, one crucial decision to make is whether to opt for a package that includes a second photographer. After 13 years as a wedding photographer I will tell you the pros of having a second photographer and why, in most cases, it is the better option.
1. Comprehensive Coverage:
One of the most significant advantages of having a second photographer is the ability to capture multiple perspectives simultaneously. While the primary photographer focuses on the couple, the second photographer can capture candid moments, reactions, and details that might otherwise be missed. This ensures a more comprehensive coverage of your special day, allowing you to relish every aspect of the celebration.
2. Diverse Styles and Creativity:
Each photographer has their unique style and artistic vision. By having two photographers, you can benefit from a wider range of creative perspectives. While one photographer may excel at capturing candid moments, the other may specialize in capturing stunning portraits. This diversity in styles ensures a more dynamic and visually appealing wedding album, showcasing the day from various angles.
3. Reduced Time Constraints:
Weddings are often fast-paced events, and having a second photographer can help alleviate time constraints. With two professionals capturing the moments, there is less need to rush through the day’s schedule. While one photographer focuses on formal portraits, the other can document the candid moments, ensuring that no precious memory is missed. This allows you to relax and enjoy your day, knowing that every moment is being captured. If you opt for only one photographer please make sure you have a solid timeline to allow them to properly make time to cover the moments… speaking from experience missing parts of a day because it was just me and a bride rushed to get through things which meant missed photographs…. and I’m not in this business to miss moments… I’m there to make sure they are captured.
4. Backup and Reliability:
Wedding days are unpredictable, and technical issues can occur at any time. By having a second photographer, you have a built-in backup plan. In case of any unforeseen circumstances, such as equipment failure or illness, the second photographer can seamlessly step in and ensure that your day is still captured flawlessly. This added reliability provides peace of mind, knowing that your memories are in safe hands. I was a guest at a wedding years ago and the photographer who was shooting solo slipped during the family photos and needed to go get stitches she returned to cover the reception later that evening, however a good portion of the afternoon was missed because she didn’t have anyone else to leave the job to.
5. Enhanced Storytelling:
Weddings are beautiful love stories, and having two photographers can enhance the storytelling aspect of your album. While one photographer focuses on the couple, the other can capture the emotions and interactions of family and friends. This dual perspective allows for a more comprehensive narrative, showcasing the love, joy, and connections that make your wedding day truly unique.
If you are planning a small elopement where coverage isn’t taking us in different directions, I would say that one photographer should be sufficient enough and when it’s just the two of you it is really easy to go around and get all the angles without bumping into one another.
