As I venture into the wedding planning for our wedding along with being in the industry for 13 years now, I know the importance of reducing wedding stress. So here I am creating content to try to help you through this process, even if we aren't a great fit for eachother I'm happy for you and excited to help in any way I can.
Let’s be real for a moment, not every man is excited for a photoshoot whether it is a couples session, a wedding day or family photos because they don’t have an expectation of how it will go or why these are so important to you. Here are a few things you can do to help get him excited about that session:
What you need to do is spend some time sitting down together going over the details and creating a positive energy around the experience for both of you. It helps when you can show him the photographers’ work of who you booked and why you choose them as your photographer. Let him provide his feedback and input, what images really speak to him are they the unposed candid ones or does he really like the classic posed? Then you do the same which images speak to you the most, which represent the connection you two share as a couple?
Discuss with him the location. Many couples leave it up to the photographer but so many times I have had a guy tell me he has a location in mind that has meaning to him and had they not spoken up about it they may not have enjoyed it as much. So it’s best to just throw the question out there for discussion and if need be negotiate a few options until you are both excited about your choices.
Try not to play dress up too much. This is where looking through your photographer or Pinterest together helps to educate him on dressed up a notch vs what does not photograph well. A few things to keep in mind though: just as you want to feel confident and look amazing in your outfit so does he so he needs to feel comfortable and himself. Now if he is not at all into bow ties but loves a dress coat with no tie at all don’t make him wear the bow tie because his discomfort will show in the photos just as yours would if you wore something you didn’t feel your best in.
Having him part of even some of the planning will help. Let him know that the outcome of these images are to represent the two of you, the connection you share that words can’t describe but an image will. The photos are a minor part of his day and if you communicate with him and go in with a positive energy ready to have fun so will he.
Now it is important that you should plan a date night after your session. After all you two are dressed amazing so why not go out and enjoy it because you both deserve it!
Amazing!!! Thank you for sharing this!!
