As I venture into the wedding planning for our wedding along with being in the industry for 13 years now, I know the importance of reducing wedding stress. So here I am creating content to try to help you through this process, even if we aren't a great fit for eachother I'm happy for you and excited to help in any way I can.
Okay, I know it’s been a while. I’ve been on the road and so busy with work and life lately. Trying to balance it all is HARD!
We are currently in the Okanagan visiting family before we head off to Mexico for 6 months. After a bit of a hiccup in the homeschooling communication, we are currently awaiting our package to get fully started. However, we have begun doing work daily. I can tell you that it is an adjustment to our lifestyle for sure but one that I am loving! I can also tell you that this choice of lifestyle isn’t accepted by some friends or family and that is fine but if you want to venture that way take opinions with a grain of salt. I have spent years weighing out the benefits and am confident in my decision.
So for homeschool, because we are traveling, the girls are to study Math and English (Language Arts). We will be taking adventures teaching them the history of Mexico (the Mayans) and enrolling into some Spanish lessons too! We have decided to keep with the Alberta curriculum for Math and English because it is important to me that they keep up with those subjects.
One of the things we are still figuring out is a set schedule of exact times of day because we have been so busy packing, traveling and still have 3 weeks until we are actually settled. Currently, since we don’t have our material I have the girls work on their writing, reading and math worksheets I got from the teaching store. I set markers on the pages on what they should complete and when they are done I check it over then if they feel like doing more they can. However, Marlee gets exhausted after reading aloud for more than 3 books so we do take breaks when we need to. Once we are settled I will have a better idea of what time of day they are most productive.
My initial plan is to have them do an hour when they finish breakfast before we head out for a few hours to explore, swim, meet friends. During the afternoon hours when it is hot outside we may sit in the shade and do some reading or wait until the evening hours if the girls are up for it. Madison is quite the independent learner and she is most productive working on her own so this should be rewarding for her since she is determined she will be finished by March and wants to work on the next grade level as soon as she is finished!
I’ll post more once we are settled and started as well as what we find works vs what we found was challenging and needed to be adjusted.
The girls are currently snuggled up together on the couch with a book, it is adorable and a sight that wouldn’t happen if they were currently in classrooms…. one of my many reasons why I’m loving this!
