As I venture into the wedding planning for our wedding along with being in the industry for 13 years now, I know the importance of reducing wedding stress. So here I am creating content to try to help you through this process, even if we aren't a great fit for eachother I'm happy for you and excited to help in any way I can.
When I first discovered my love for film the first thing I knew I had to do was to attend a workshop to really educate myself on film. Now when I say “film” to people they always assume that I mean video but no I do actually mean old school film images that need developing and scanning. Film fits my style perfectly I knew I wanted to add in the timeless look of film to capture romantic stories more authentically it was just a matter of educating myself and practicing.
I had been following Julie Paisley, an incredible film destination wedding photographer, for some time and as soon as I saw her post the intro to film workshop I knew I was destined to start my new adventure.
Since I love adventure a quick trip to New York (another story) was planned before I headed over to Nashville to meet Julie.
Our first day was spent lounging on the couches snuggled up with cozy blankets and delicious snacks chatting about business and then onto film. Big deep breath…. and wow a few things that seemed overwhelming were now so simple! I thought I would find myself lost but in fact I found myself, I found my style and that was HUGE!
Our second day we traveled to the most lovely venue just outside of Nashville to do our styled shoot. Now I didn’t have my film camera with me because the one I had was a manual wind up one that I had no clue how to use and ended up tearing up film trying to figure it out! So thankfully I was told about this amazing starter 35mm Canon to get that will fit all my current lenses onto it.. win win! This camera didn’t get to me until after the workshop therefore I had to shoot with digital but the film look in mind. I didn’t mind, it took the pressure off until I could really hone into those skills on my own time. My focus then became to really try to shoot at angles I hadn’t done before and capture more details…. that was my challenge and these images are my outcome.
I really cannot praise Julie enough for opening her heart and teaching so many photographers the things she has learned. She made the transition to include film in my life a seamless one and for that I am incredibly thankful.
