As I venture into the wedding planning for our wedding along with being in the industry for 13 years now, I know the importance of reducing wedding stress. So here I am creating content to try to help you through this process, even if we aren't a great fit for eachother I'm happy for you and excited to help in any way I can.
Do you love the idea of a sparkler exit but not sure where to start on how to include one on your wedding day?
I have put together 6 tips to pull off the perfect sparkler exit:
1. Check with Your Venue:
Always confirm first with your venue that sparklers are allowed. Some locations may have restrictions and just be sure to respect that. Your wedding venue or even the town/city you are having your reception in may require you to have a fire permit and if you are in a national or provincial park it may be banned during certain times of the year. Be prepared for unexpected circumstances, such as rain, forrest fires or wind. Have an indoor space or alternative exit plan if needed such as confetti indoors, champagne send off (opt for the cheap stuff!).
2. Size Matters:
Be sure to invest in long-lasting sparklers (at least 20 inches) to ensure they burn throughout the exit and keep everyone safe. You can also look into smokeless sparklers to help capture clear photos. Make sure you order enough to have at least every second guest hold one.
3. Coordinate the Timing:
Plan the sparkler exit for the perfect moment. After 13 years photographing weddings if you wait until the end of the night as you are actually leaving there isn’t many guests left. I highly recommend to do it after all your formal reception events before guests start to leave and while your Photographer/Videographer are still there!
4. Inform Your Photographers/Videographers:
Communicate with your photographer to ensure they are prepared for the sparkler exit. They can capture stunning photos with the right settings and lighting. This takes them some time to get set up outside if the rest of the reception is inside so don’t rush them just communicate the timing and allow them space to get ready.
5. Designate a Coordinator:
Choose a reliable friend or family member to organize the sparkler exit. They can distribute sparklers and lighters (be sure you have LOTS), communicate timing, and ensure safety. Communicate with the guests ahead of time what the plan is. Have this in your timeline that they get with reception events, have the MC announce it early on when to expect it to happen. Emphasize the importance of safety. Encourage guests to hold sparklers away from their bodies, and avoid running or crowding.
6. Add in music:
Talk to your DJ to see if he can put a speaker outside and pick an upbeat song, it will help with the vibe.
Enjoy the moment, go slow and take it all in, be in the moment. Happy wedding planning!
